Command Failure = Commanding Officer Failure

When things go wrong at your command, start searching for the reason(s) in increasingly larger concentric circles around your own desk.  Being in the middle of that circle, you’ll find that most problems begin and end with the command tone established by the guy/gal with who wears this pin on his/her chest – the Skipper.

  1. This one is actually true. I cannot recall a ship or unit that was automatically in a stall or not mission effective due simply to lack of men, material or $ when well led. It sure was easy to see the difference between good and bad leaders when officers found themselves in identical crappy situations lacking men, money and material but the good ones sailed on time and completed the missions. The bad leaders failed to sail or screwed it up.
