“No man ever reached to excellence in any one art or profession without having passed through the slow and painful process of study and preparation.”
—Horace
Musings, leadership tidbits and quotes posted by a retired Navy Captain (really just a high performing 2nd Class Petty Officer) who hung up his uniform a bit too early. He still wears his Navy service on his sleeve. He needs to get over that. "ADVANCE WARNING – NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT!" A "self-appointed" lead EVANGELIST for the "cryptologic community". Keeping CRYPTOLOGY alive-one day and Sailor at a time. 2019 is 84th Anniversary of the Naval Security Group.

Captain Lambert,I agree with this wholeheartedly, but there are those of us today that just gaining position is more important than the process of study and preparation to be qualified for that position. I will not name names but each of us is aware of individuals who have been granted their position by means other than what Horace outlined in his words.Very Respectfully,Navyman834

I agree with Horace & Navyman834 – My view is that \”reached to excellence\” is different than being on top. I don't want to be negative but we've had many leaders, many good leaders but very few that fit Horace's excellence bar.
